Background

  1. Thomas Woods was admitted as a barrister in 2017. He practises in criminal law and related areas. He appears frequently in the District Court and Local Court on pleas of guilty and in defended matters. He has considerable experience in preparing matters for the Court of Criminal Appeal.
  2. Since commencing practice, Thomas has appeared in various other jurisdictions, including the Independent Commission Against Corruption; the Administrative Appeals Tribunal; and the Children’s Court.

Recent Cases

Zhang v R [2018] NSWCCA 82 – led by Senior Counsel in an appeal against sentence concerning an omission by the sentencing judge to specify a discount for the offender’s plea of guilty;

TP v R [2018] NSWCCA 140 – led by Senior Counsel in an appeal against sentence on a ground that the sentence imposed for sexual offending was manifestly excessive; and

Boensch v JJ Richards & Sons Pty Ltd [2018] NSWSC 1683 – appeared as amicus curiae in the interests of the Plaintiff on a motion to set aside an order for security for costs.
